A day in the Peace Corps
I wake up at about 5:30. It is Saturday morning, and rain is falling lightly. I like light rainy days, so far, because it means the place won't get so hot. Light rain means it won't get too muddy. I brush my teeth and take a bucket shower, which means I dump water over my head and wash my face. Wash my face means I rub a few handfuls of water on my face. I've been letting my hair grow, and have a good mullet going now, some real hockey hair. I take my real bath in the afternoon or evening before bed, where I go swim in the ocean. I rub sand on my feet and lower legs to clean them. Otherwise I just rub my hands over my body and hair to try to get it cleaner. I don't use soap or shampoo. For breakfast I eat half a dozen breakfast crackers with peanut butter, and a couple cups of a 3-in-1 Chinese coffee mix that everyone just calls Chinese coffee.
